Here’s to our first day in Madrid! And my first Here’s to our first day in Madrid! And my first travel tip for kids (this one is not a big secret though): choose your activities based on your kids’ interests! My son is into anything that goes ✈️🚂🚙 So we spent the morning at the train museum! He loved seeing the inside and outside of a whole lot of beautiful trains. Both my kids have a high need for physical activity, so we hit up Madrid Rio, a park along a river with 17!! play areas for kids! We ended up spending the longest at a large playground with a nature play space. It included a play area for toddlers as well as a big pirate ship climbing structure for bigger kids. Will we also do activities while here that aren’t always based on our kids’ interests? Sure! But we will definitely be balancing those things with movement opportunities and interest based activities. Any cool places you have visited based on your kids’ interests? We are sitting inside a lot this weekend while we We are sitting inside a lot this weekend while we ride out the first heat wave of the year. Where we live in Germany, it is not typical to have air conditioning, so other than water play in the early mornings and late afternoons, we spend midday with the curtains drawn and the doors and windows shut to keep out the heat! It is amazing what time and a bit of attention wil It is amazing what time and a bit of attention will bring! Last September, we moved to a rental home and for the first time in almost 13 years, I had a bit of land to do with as I wished. A little over two weeks ago, we put up, filled and planted 6 raised beds along the side of the yard and we have all been enjoying monitoring their progress. T loves helping me water the plants and check them each morning for bugs and other issues (which we have unfortunately had, thanks to an infestation of black aphids on the zucchini and beans). E has enjoyed some afternoons sitting with me outside and occasionally reaching out for leaves as I hold her while working on the beds. All and all, it’s been a lovely experience and we are so excited to see how our garden grows in the weeks and months to come! Would you like to see more progress? Want to know what we are growing? My son had a blast exploring all of the exhibits, especially the butterfly house and the car racing track. There are tons of cool interactive things related to math here, but my son loves this pattern creator. You put a paint brush in little cups and it changes the colors you paint on the screen. My daughter was just a dream of a second child. One week ago, we boarded a plane from Berlin to Newark. I cried tears of joy when we touched down. It still feels surreal. I love living in Germany, but these last two years have been the hardest since I moved abroad in 2009.
