So I had all these great posts planned for the las So I had all these great posts planned for the last two weeks on our Spain trip. But as we all know, sometimes we make plans only to be foiled by the universe. The third day of our trip, I started the morning with a scratchy throat. I wrote it off to the air conditioning in our vacation apartment. That evening, I spiked a high fever. My husband was next, followed by both kids and my mom the following day. Two lines later and after 2.5 years of avoiding it, we all had Covid. We spent most of our vacation in our rental home and hotel room. We tried our best to find safe ways to get the kids some fresh air without risking infecting anyone. We walked on the beach and visited many playgrounds hoping to find one with no kids. We even extended our trip by 3 days because my daughter was still testing positive for Covid the day before our flight home. We are finally home and while my son claims it was the best trip ever, it was hard and disappointing. We still had some wonderful moments, but I am glad to have it behind me. And my first travel tip for kids (this one is not a big secret though): choose your activities based on your kids’ interests! My son is into anything that goes ✈️🚂🚙 So we spent the morning at the train museum! He loved seeing the inside and outside of a whole lot of beautiful trains. Both my kids have a high need for physical activity, so we hit up Madrid Rio, a park along a river with 17!! play areas for kids! We ended up spending the longest at a large playground with a nature play space. It included a play area for toddlers as well as a big pirate ship climbing structure for bigger kids. Will we also do activities while here that aren’t always based on our kids’ interests? Sure! But we will definitely be balancing those things with movement opportunities and interest based activities. Any cool places you have visited based on your kids’ interests?
